A weekend in St. Simons, GA

Ahhhhhhhh. That’s me sighing in sadness that the most relaxing weekend I’ve had in a longtime is coming to an end. We headed to St. Simon’s from Atlanta on Friday afternoon. It took us roughly 4 hours and 48 minutes to arrive at his Grandparent’s Big Blue Bungalow.

The house was beautiful inside and out and in the perfect location. We were able to walk to the pier and the lighthouse in about 10 minutes. The colors in the sky looked like they had literally been watercolored in… No matter what time of day we looked. We ate froyo and took in all the beauty around us … That is when we weren’t distracted by the lady who repeatedly ran past us wearing a sign that said , “Yes I’m 48″. Weird. Being the performer that I am, I felt the need to draw some attention to myself as well. I did this by asking the , “Bird whisperer” to put bread on my head and well… You’ll see occurred from that point on.

On Sunday we went to visit Fort Fredrica. This was pretty cool to see because I just taught my students about James Oglethorpe and Mary Musgrove last week! I was able to see the lot Mary lived on as well as the remains of her town. (It burnt in a massive fire)

On the way home we stopped in Savannah to break up the drive and of course see the Colony Oglethorpe founded so many years ago. Between the elegantly draped live oaks and the cobblestone walk-ways… We had more trouble finding things NOT to photograph. We grabbed some over-priced Toffee Fudge and Pralines from River Street Sweets and headed back home. Although we love a good vacation , especially since our home is flooded at the moment … I don’t think we could ever live somewhere other than Atlanta. (No matter how bad Daniel wants to move to Switzerland)
