3 Days in Colorado

Colorado was amazing to visit this time of year , even though online it said this month is refered to as “Mud Season”. (It did't rain once) My husband Daniel has been about six times but it was my first! This was an impromptu trip , Dan the Man stumbled across some decent rates so naturally we packed a bag and jumped aboard.

Since we arrived late at we headed straight to the Hyatt House close to the airport to stay our first night. The next day we awoke to some beautiful views and Jalapeño Omelets! We drove ourselves into the city and RANDOMLY ran into a friend I used to teach with while she was walking her dogs! From there we made a not so quick stop at Voodoo Doughnuts. I remembered a band that I interviewed called the Mowglis said that the place was awesome. And aside from the long wait, the Donuts lived up to the hype!

I was left begging for more after inhaling my glazed Captain Crunch donut! (We even ended up going back two days later) We then embarked on our tour of the Coors Field where the Rockies play … It was so-so on the entertainment scale. I’d say my favorite part was more so the argument between the two guides were having as we toured.

We grabbed a flight of beers at the Breckenridge Brewery, which were great – a little pricey though.

We then decided to make our way on to Boulder to explore. We walked around the Pearl Street Mall for a bit, then headed to the FlatIrons for a hike. We got about half way up our trail before it started to storm and we had to run back down. We then decided we should head to Estes Park before it got dark. The drive was gorgeous, we had amazing views the whole way to our AirBnB!! Our place was awesome it had a fire place, free food, and a Golden Retriever… The WORKS!

We also heard a little rumor that this place down the street was having Free Filet Friday: meaning if you buy one filet mignon then the other is free. So basically we shared an amazing meal for about 30$. This fueled us up for our big hike the next day! We woke up early and had Belgian waffles and bacon (Our AirBnB host made) then headed on our way to Lumpy Ridge Trail. This trail was a special discovery because it ends in Rocky Mountain National Park , but the TrailHead is outside the park so you can avoid paying the entrance fee if you do this one! There were incredible views of the Rockies the whole way up. We took loads of pictures but unfortunately didn’t snag a shot of the giant moose that was lurking in the trees. We made it to the top and Gem Lake was mesmerizing. Make sure to gaurd your food at the top though , the chipmunks were stealing ou flaming hot cheetos left and right!

Once we got back down the mountain we went to take a tour of the famous Stanley Hotel where the Shining and Dumb and Dumber were filmed. To our surprise we walked in on the actual Stanley Film Festival which was being hosted there that day! I guess we looked like we belonged there because we were given access with out a pass! From there we shopped around the city of Estes and ended up eating at Dave’s BBQ which was epic seeing that we both love us some ribs!

We slept hard that night on our Swedish foam mattress (our host kept bringing the fact that it was sweedish up). We awoke to the sweet smell of mini quiches and donuts upstairs. Our lovely AirbnB Host was preparing our departure breakfast. It was delicious , but I do have to point out that it got quite tense when our host dropped something and when he went to pick it up … he passed gas VERY loudly. I don’t think we have ever laughed so hard in our lives! We rushed out after that awkwardness and headed to Denver for one last shopping trip. We visited Larmier Square and the massive four story REI till it was time to say goodbye! We chilled in the Admirals Club in DIA while waiting for our flight home. I have to say that it was way nicer than the one in Atlanta...step your game up Atlanta! That about sums up our trip, great food, weather , and entertainment! Also, I’m writing this on the plane ride home, on my phone so sorry if it’s choppy. I just wanted to let my viewers in on how I made 48 hours in Colorado worth the money (anywhere with Dan is worth the money though, let’s be real).
