1st hike – Grutschalp to Murren

We got to Lauterbrunnen midday on Saturday from Zurich and decided to go out for our first hike from Grutschalp to Murren. We rode the rode the cable car to the trail head listening to a hilariously angry older couple arguing about the ticket prices for the lift the whole time. We decided that whenever we were annoyed with eachother for the rest of the trip we would yell "shut-up Mark" in their honor. Word of advice though, the tickets were expensive for each train or lift we had to take to get to the trails heads ... we didn't anticipate that. Each trip was worth every penny though as you will see from the photos!

We began our journey on the paved/gravel trail but about five minutes in saw a sign for a more strenuous route called the Mountain View Trail... TAKE IT! The views were insane and littered with Swiss cows moo-ing in all of their glory. I literally felt like I was in the sound of music, minus the annoyance of children following me around singing of course! We reached the highest view point and took some photos then decided to break off the trail and hike down through the side of a cow pasture to the most beautiful meadow EVER. We had run out of water at the point but lucky for us there was a glacier waterfall flowing down into a stream that we could refill at. Yes, that's right the water is pure enough to drink right from the stream (as far as we know).

We continued our hike till we hit the adorable city of Murren to stop and grab lunch. This was an especially memorable dining experience because Daniel ordered grilled cheese expecting a sandwich…but it turned out to be literally a plate of cheese that was grilled, that's it! Don't worry I shared my 25 dollar snack sized salad with him (pricey country I'm telling ya)

After that we made our way to the cable car in Murren and rode it down to one of the 72 (Yes, that’s for real) waterfalls in the valley of Laterburrenen called Murrenbachfall . We took the trail to the viewing point and then hopped the fence and climbed up crumbling rubble to get closer to the falls. The view was sick! We then walked back to our hotel in the valley alongside the river and called it a day.
